Captain Scott Ross

LAFD Peer Support Coordinator

Scott Ross finished his career as a highly respected Peer Support Coordinator for LACoFD with over 23 years of experience in the Peer Support field, specializing in the development, implementation, and advocacy of peer support programs within his department that serves over 3400 Firefighters, 700 Lifeguards, and over 1000 civilians.

Scott Ross is a Master Instructor for Peer Support training programs with the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), where he has had an integral role in training first responders and emergency support personnel to provide vital support to their peers.


Margot Charkow-Ross, LCSW, MBA is the Behavioral Health and Wellness Consultant and Statewide Peer Support Mental Health Liaison for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Working within the department’s Office of Employee Wellness, she provides mental health consultation and support to the Peer Support Program and offers therapeutic support to employees across the state. She also develops and delivers trainings and presentations focused on psychological wellness, resilience, and navigating the unique stressors of corrections work. Margot is passionate about supporting the wellbeing of employees and strengthening the resources available to those to serve others

Ashton Peterson

Dept. Corrections Statewide Peer Support Program Manager

Ashton Peterson is the Statewide Peer Support Program Manager for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Working within the departments Office of Employee Wellness, her main function is to oversee training and education for PSP, provide field support, debriefings and serve as the departments subject matter expert on all things Peer Support. With over 10 years of department experience she describes her role in Peer Support as the greatest honor of her career.


Jason Kriger has over 25 years of working in law enforcement, both as a civilian and as a sworn personnel. He has see the good, the bad and the ugly of this job. He was lucky to have some amazing partners and resources available that assisted him during my darkest times; because of this he joined the department peer support program and aims to be a resource to others. He has been part of the peer support team for over 5 years. Since being on the team, he has now become the coordinator in charge of recruiting, interviewing, and teaching the new members of peer support.
