More First Responders take their own lives than die in the line of duty.” That reality changed the course of Care Jo Vaughan’s life and became the driving force behind her mission: ensuring that First Responders have access to safe, confidential, and culturally competent treatment for PTSD, PTSI, trauma, mental health challenges, and addiction.

Care is the Executive Director of First Responders Malibu, a treatment center dedicated exclusively to the unique needs and culture of First Responders.

In 2019, Care was honored by the California State Legislature as “The First Responder Ambassador” in recognition of her advocacy and dedication to the First Responder community.

As an author, advocate, trainer and speaker, Care has made it her mission to break the stigma surrounding mental health and addiction in the First Responder community. She stands beside First Responders and their families—from the first call for help, through treatment, and into recovery.

Her promise is simple and unwavering:
